Microsoft.GetInstance().Acquisitions[Winternals.GetInstance()] != null

If you're reading this, either you do:

  • have parsed the title very well - or -
  • you want to read more.

Anyway, this is great news: Microsoft has acquired Winternals, the company around Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell. You might have seen mark speaking at various Microsoft events already, about Windows Internals, helping you to understand how Windows really works inside out. Furthermore, the company has a bunch of great tools which are all favorites of mine (or to be exact: the ones in the Sysinternals toolbox, which are on my take-it-everywhere USB stick).

So, I was very excited to hear the news and I'm sure this is a good thing to make the Windows toolbox bigger and better.

Let's hope that this will result in better tools. But I'm a bit sceptic because I cannot think of any tool/application benefitting MS's aquisition.

I hope this is a good thing.  What will Mark & Bryce be doing for Microsoft?  I'm sure there are many wonderful things they can do, but at the cost of there independence.  Will they continue to maintain the tools (which, as you note, are great)?

Time will tell.
